Missions

“Where all grow inwardly in faith and outwardly in action, serving God’s world locally and globally…”

The quotation above describes an important element of our church Vision Statement.  We are committed to serving local, national, and international charitable organizations through volunteer work, fund raising events, and cash donations.

Each budget year, a  portion of our yearly pledges is allocated for Church Missions.   Approximately 50% of the money allocated to Mission activities goes to Our Church’s Wider Mission.  For the last two years, about 10% of the monies have been disbursed to the Household Recycling Ministry of Massachusetts, the Acton Food Pantry, and Cradles to Crayons, all of which are local charitable organizations.  We use 10% of the Mission pledges to help fund the Youth Mission Trip.

Special Offerings

The United Church of Christ encourages donations throughout the year to four Special Mission Offerings that support our Church’s Wider Mission.  The money collected from these special offerings funds development projects in 70 countries, church growth and leadership initiatives,  ministries of justice and compassion throughout the US, and financial aid to needy ministers and their families.  Detailed explanations of the work funded by each of these special offerings can be found at the following link Special Mission Offerings.

Mission Events

All participants in our church community are encouraged to initiate and lead mission events or activities for needy groups or individuals.  These events or activities can be completed by one individual, a small group ministry, or organized to include the help and participation of the entire community.  In addition, funds called fast track grants have been set aside to assist mission leaders in their quest to promote their charitable endeavors.  Learn more about our youth and adult mission trips.

Fast Track Grants

Fast Track Grants are cash disbursements of $200 or less to be used to help a needy individual or family or to provide funds to initiate a mission activity.  Any church participant may apply for a Fast Track Grant.  The disbursement of funds is granted by a simple electronic vote by a majority of the Missions Committee.  For more details, see the application form at the following link Fast Track Mission Process Form.
